The Waterloo Warriors take to the ice, court, field or pool this weekend in a jammed pack weekend of varsity sports.
In playoff action, the women's rugby team takes to the pitch in the OUA quarter-finals as they host the Brock Badgers Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm on CIF field #1. Waterloo beat Brock 22-11 earlier in the season and look for their first semifinal berth in two years after falling to Western in the quarter-finals the past two seasons. The black and gold look poised for a strong post season.
On the ice, the men's and women's hockey teams unveil their 2010-11 teams during their home openers at the Columbia Icefield Arena. The men host the Guelph Gryphons tomorrow (Friday, October 15) evening at 7:30 pm while the women welcome the Toronto Varsity Blues for an afternoon affair on Saturday at 2:00 pm as part of Hockey Day in Waterloo. The men host the Laurier Golden Hawks in the first edition of the battle of Waterloo following the women at 7:30 pm; always an exciting and intense game. The women wrap up a busy weekend at the rink as they play host to the York Lions at 2:00 pm on Sunday.
Both men's hockey games and the women's game on Saturday will be available via live streaming on the SSN Canada network. Click here to access the live feed at game time.
On the court, the 43rd annual Naismith classic gets underway Friday afternoon with the women Warriors going to battle against the tough Alberta Golden Bears at 3:00 pm. The Men look to defend their 2009 Naismith title as they host Memorial University at 8:00 pm. Both men's and women's teams have fresh looking line-ups and hope the Naismith can prepare them for a successful 2010-11 campaign. Click here to access the Naismith schedule.
The Sunday afternoon games featuring the Warriors will be available to watch on the SSN Canada network. The women battle cross-town rivals Laurier at 2:00 pm while the men conclude their Naismith tournament against the Ryerson Rams at 4:00 pm. Click here to access the live feed at game time.
On the field, the men's and women's soccer teams look to keep their playoff hopes alive as they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Columbia Icefields. Both teams have struggled to find consistency this year and will look for two big weekend wins (they face McMaster in Hamilton on Saturday in their other match). The women's currently sits in sevent place with a 3-7-1 record while the men cling to a playoff spot sitting in fifth with a 5-6-2 record.
