The Waterloo Warriors are pleased to announce the hiring of
Richard Eddy for a 10-month contract as head coach of the women's volleyball team.
Eddy was the ideal candidate after working as an assistant under interim head coach Luke Snider last season while building positive experiences with all members of the team. He also led recruiting efforts for the upcoming season and assisted with opponent analysis and match planning.
"Richard is the right choice for the job based on all of his previous coaching experience and the positive rapport he has already established with the team," mentioned Associate Director
Christine Stapleton. "Richard's comprehensive approach to yearly planning and integrated individualized performance plans will be key in helping the women's volleyball program reach their goals next season."
Eddy's coaching experience runs deep. He is the head coach of the 18U Kitchener/Waterloo Predators girls' team and also coached the OVA Region 3 boys' team at the 2012 Ontario Winter Games. Eddy was also an accomplished athlete, having played junior varsity volleyball at the University of Calgary (98/99), and competing in the 1997 Canada Summer Games in Brandon, Manitoba.
Eddy's coaching philosophy has always been to develop mentally and physically talented athletes that exhibit confidence and self-discipline, and his approach will be no different at the CIS level.
"I've always focussed on developing trusting relationships with my athletes, allowing them to be successful on and off the court," mentioned Eddy. "I believe my coaching style will allow our team to gain confidence throughout the season while making a strong push for the post-season come February."
Eddy, who currently works as an IT Portfolio Analyst for Economical Insurance Company will begin his duties immediately continuing to recruit while working with the student-athletes to become contenders in the OUA next season.
